President William Ruto has announced new government appointments affecting diplomatic and commission positions, aimed at strengthening state operations and improving service delivery across key institutions, according to an official gazette notice dated May 8, 2026.
Among the appointments is Julius Murori Mbiuwe, who has been named Ambassador in the Foreign Service following National Assembly approval after his successful vetting process by parliamentary committees for deployment to Vatican City.
His posting assigns him Kenya’s ambassador to the Vatican City, reflecting the country’s expanding diplomatic engagement and strengthening bilateral relations with the Holy See in matters of international cooperation and diplomacy.
In a separate notice, President Ruto appointed Kepha Nyamweya Omae as Chairperson of the National Cohesion and Integration Commission for a six-year term effective immediately under the official government directive.
He also named Jackson Swadi Kedogo, Samuel Mwachiro Mwawasi, Irene Tuel, Hassan Ahmed, and Jerusah Michael as members of the NCIC, all serving alongside the new chairperson for six-year terms.
The appointments were made under constitutional and statutory authority, exercising presidential powers as outlined in Kenya’s legal framework governing public service appointments and institutional governance procedures as provided by law.
The National Assembly approved the nominees after a rigorous vetting process conducted by parliamentary committees, which assessed their suitability for office before adoption of the final report in plenary sitting.
This restructuring follows expiry of the previous NCIC commissioners’ six-year non-renewable terms, including the outgoing chairperson Samuel Kobia and seven others whose mandates ended in November 2025 officially completing their period of service.
The newly appointed commissioners will promote equality, good relations, and peaceful coexistence among Kenya’s diverse communities, while also handling discrimination complaints and making recommendations to relevant authorities for action as part of their mandate.
