Sifuna Tops Latest Poll as Opposition and UDA Camps React

A new opinion poll has stirred political excitement across the country, placing Edwin Sifuna at the top of the presidential preference list ahead of the 2027 General Election.

According to the survey by Mizani Africa, Sifuna—now associated with the “Linda Mwananchi” movement—commands 33.4% support among respondents.

He is closely followed by President William Ruto, who stands at 29.0%, setting up what could become a highly competitive race if current trends hold.

The poll further places former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i in third position with 8.3%, while Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka comes in fourth at 4.7%. Former Chief Justice David Maraga follows with 2.6%, as ex-Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua trails at 2.2%.

The results have triggered celebrations among supporters of the Linda Mwananchi camp, who view Sifuna’s lead as a sign of growing grassroots momentum. For them, the numbers strengthen his position as a serious contender and significantly boost his bargaining power within any potential opposition coalition.

At the same time, allies within the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) have downplayed the findings, noting that online polls can sometimes reflect limited demographics and may not fully capture the national mood. Political analysts also caution that such surveys are only snapshots in time and can shift rapidly as alliances evolve.

Still, the poll underscores Sifuna’s rising political profile, particularly among younger voters and urban constituencies. His recent visibility in public engagements and grassroots mobilization efforts appears to be translating into measurable support.

The broader implication is clear: the 2027 race is beginning to take shape earlier than expected. With multiple high-profile figures in contention and no unified opposition candidate yet agreed upon, early polling like this is likely to influence strategy, negotiations, and coalition-building in the months ahead.

While it remains too early to predict the final outcome, Sifuna’s apparent lead adds a new dynamic to Kenya’s political landscape—one that both the opposition and the ruling camp will be watching closely.
