ODM deputy party leader Abdulswamad Nassir has criticised the Linda Mwananchi faction within the Orange Democratic Movement party, accusing the group of moving away from ODM’s founding ideals.
Speaking during a public event, Nassir said some leaders within the faction were working against the party’s decision to cooperate with President William Ruto.
He warned that such actions could weaken ODM and push it into what he described as “endless opposition politics.”
Nassir defended the party’s recent cooperation with the Kenya Kwanza administration, saying the move was meant to protect the interests of Kenyans and ensure development projects continue across the country.
According to him, ODM should focus on practical politics that can improve the lives of ordinary citizens instead of remaining in constant political battles.
He argued that leaders who oppose the cooperation deal risk dividing the party at a time when unity is needed most.
Nassir added that ODM has always stood for dialogue, democracy, and putting the interests of wananchi first.
The Linda Mwananchi faction has recently criticised ODM’s growing relationship with President Ruto’s government.
Some members believe the cooperation could weaken the party’s role as a strong opposition voice ahead of the 2027 General Election.
However, Nassir dismissed those concerns, insisting that working with the government does not mean ODM has abandoned its principles.
He said the party can still hold the government accountable while at the same time supporting projects that benefit Kenyans.
The remarks are expected to increase political debate within ODM as different factions continue to clash over the party’s future direction.
