The amount of money believed to have been transferred by suspects linked to the murder of Reverend Julius Ndumia Ngari has now been revealed by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) as detectives continue with investigations into the shocking killing that happened in Nakuru County.
In a statement released by the DCI, investigators said the prime suspect who is currently in police custody is believed to be part of a dangerous criminal gang connected to several violent robberies in Nakuru and nearby areas.
Detectives revealed that KSh 600,000 was transferred from a victim’s bank account to mobile phone numbers associated with members of the gang shortly before the murder investigations intensified.
According to the DCI, Reverend Julius Ndumia Ngari was killed on the night of Sunday, May 3, 2026, at PCEA Tabuga Church located in Nakuru North Sub-County.
The incident shocked church members, residents, and leaders across the country, with many demanding speedy investigations and justice for the slain cleric.
Investigators say the suspects are not new to crime.
The gang had reportedly been profiled by security agencies as early as July 2022 because of their involvement in violent armed robberies.
Detectives further stated that the gang is known for disguising themselves in security uniforms during attacks to confuse victims and avoid suspicion.
The DCI also revealed that the suspects have been linked to another violent robbery that occurred on May 1, 2026.
During that incident, the attackers allegedly stole money from a victim by transferring the KSh 600,000 directly from the victim’s bank account to several mobile phone numbers connected to the gang members.
Authorities believe the same criminal group could be responsible for several violent attacks reported in Nakuru County in recent months.
Detectives are currently studying patterns of robbery and violence believed to be connected to the gang.
The investigation has also included advanced forensic analysis aimed at placing the suspects at the crime scene.
Officers say scientific examinations are ongoing as they work to gather enough evidence to support prosecution in court.
Police also confirmed that one of the firearms believed to have been used by the gang had earlier been recovered in 2024.
The weapon was identified as an L1A1 rifle, which investigators say had been used in previous robbery incidents.
