Vocal UDA MP Facing Reelection Headache After Defying Gachagua to Support Ruto

Laikipia County Women Representative is facing the biggest test of her political career as she eyes a second term in Parliament in 2027.

Kagiri rode on the UDA party wave that had swept across the region in 2022 to clinch the seat with a landslide. The exit of the then incumbent Catherine Waruguru from the contest gave her an easy victory.

But fast forward, as the clock ticks towards the next general election, the vocal MP is facing a defining moment in her political career as she seeks a second straight term in Parliament.

Kagiri is one of the lawmakers from the Mount Kenya region who have openly defied former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua to remain firmly behind President William Ruto.

In a region where the former Deputy President is keen to stamp his political authority, going against him is seen by many as politically suicidal.

As such, with the battle lines drawn in readiness for the next general election, Kagiri has a mountain to climb. Will she survive the Gachagua political wave?
