Shock and grief have gripped students and residents of Uasin Gishu County following the sudden death of a Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) student who collapsed and died while spending the night at a guest house near Mosombor trading centre in circumstances that are now under police investigation.

The deceased, identified as 25-year-old Sharon Nyongesa, is reported to have been in the company of an older man, Stanley Kipkemei, at the time of the incident.

She was undertaking her medical attachment at a local health facility as part of her training and was described by peers as hardworking and ambitious.

Reports indicate that the incident occurred in the early hours after she allegedly became unresponsive inside the room.

The man is said to have raised alarm and rushed to seek help, after which she was taken to a nearby clinic where medical staff confirmed she had already died.

Police have since launched investigations to establish the exact cause of death. Her body was moved to Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital mortuary, where a postmortem examination is expected to provide further clarity.

News of the tragedy has triggered emotional reactions online, with students and members of the public expressing shock and grief. Many described her as a bright young medic whose life was cut short too soon.

Authorities have urged the public to avoid speculation as investigations continue into the circumstances surrounding her final moments.
