These include the use of recyclable aluminium food containers, bamboo cutlery in place of single-use plastics, paper cups instead of plastic, and canned beverages replacing plastic bottles.
According to the airline, the measures have helped eliminate more than 337 tonnes of single-use plastic annually, while delivering savings exceeding Ksh50 million each year.
Recognition for Strategic Collaboration
Kenya Airways also received special recognition for its collaboration with Dutch airline KLM. Over four editions of The Aviation Challenge, the two carriers have partnered to exchange ideas, test solutions, and accelerate the implementation of sustainability initiatives across their networks.
The collaboration has been credited with driving scalable innovations that can be adopted by airlines beyond Europe and Africa.
Jambojet Also Honoured
Kenya Airways’ low-cost subsidiary, Jambojet, was also recognised during the challenge, winning the Most Compelling Story award.
