According to Fatuma, Ruto played a role in ensuring that Raila became Prime Minister, while also claiming that Raila maintained affection for the President despite the political differences that existed between them.
“President Ruto, you made sure that Raila became Prime Minister. He loves you, even in death,” Fatuma said, in remarks that have generated discussion among Kenyans.
Her comments come against the background of the political relationship between Ruto and Raila, which changed significantly over the years.
The two leaders were once on opposing sides of Kenya’s political divide before entering into a working arrangement following the 2022 General Election.
Raila later worked with Ruto’s administration under the broad-based government arrangement, with ODM leaders joining the government and supporting cooperation on several national issues.

The Migori Woman Representative is currently an independent member of the National Assembly and serves as chairperson of the Special Funds Accounts Committee. Parliament lists her as a member of the 13th Parliament.
