Kisii Doctor Found Dead in Bedroom Days After Returning From India, Family Says He Was Not Sick

A family in Kisii County is mourning the sudden death of Dr. Vincent Magubo Nyagucha, a doctor who was found dead in his bedroom just days after returning to Kenya from India, where he had spent about a month undergoing specialised surgical training.

According to his family, he had not been sick, had not complained of pain, and appeared to be in good health before his death.

The tragedy has left relatives, colleagues, and friends in deep shock because the doctor had resumed work almost immediately after coming back home.

His sister, Nyagucha Mercyline Boyani, said he had just returned from India and was full of life when he got back to his routines in Kenya.

She explained that he travelled to Kisumu on Thursday, was expected at work on Friday, but did not show up, and by Saturday his phone was not being answered. He was later found dead in his bedroom.

Boyani said the family was devastated by the loss of the 36 year old father of two, describing him as a devoted son, brother, father, and friend.

In a family statement shared as they announced his passing, she said he died peacefully in his sleep on Saturday, June 6, and that the family had been left deeply shocked and saddened by the news.

According to the postmortem findings shared by the family, the cause of death was pulmonary edema, also described by the sister as edema, with no signs of bleeding or struggle.

The family said there had been no warning signs that he was unwell, and that he simply went to sleep and never woke up.

The death has drawn an outpouring of sympathy from Kenyans online, with many sending condolences to the family and praising the doctor’s life and service.

The reactions reflected the surprise and sorrow surrounding a death that came so suddenly and without any prior signs of illness.

The family has asked for prayers and support as they come to terms with the loss and prepare for further communication on burial arrangements.
