Kisii Senator Richard Onyonka has broken his silence on the public attention surrounding his relationship with former Roselyn Akombe, firmly defending her while opening up about his large and closely-knit family.
Speaking during a memorial gathering held in honour of his late mother, Teresia Nyaboke Omoke, the senator surprised many after publicly acknowledging Akombe as his wife and revealing that they have been together for 15 years.
Onyonka described Akombe as a supportive partner who stood by his family during difficult moments, especially while his mother was receiving treatment in the United States.
According to the senator, she played a major role in coordinating medical care and supporting the family behind the scenes.
The outspoken politician also addressed growing online criticism directed at Akombe after details about their relationship surfaced publicly.
He appeared unbothered by the debate, saying his family arrangement has existed peacefully for years and insisting that all his wives have maintained mutual respect and cooperation.
In a candid moment, Onyonka disclosed that he has 12 children and promised that Kenyans would eventually get to know more members of his family.
He added that despite his busy political life, he makes time to visit his children regularly, including trips through Kitale where Akombe reportedly resides while in Kenya.
The revelation sparked intense reactions online, with many social media users praising the senator for openly taking responsibility for his children and maintaining strong family ties away from the public eye.
Others expressed admiration for how private he had kept his personal affairs despite being a prominent national figure.
The discussion has since fueled wider conversations around modern relationships, polygamy, and public scrutiny faced by high-profile leaders in Kenya.
